With narratives and quotes from key stakeholders, the report offered a deeper dive into five key areas: Climate, Carbon & Water, Waste & Packaging, Responsible Sourcing, and People Impact.

Building a multi-dimensional story

Whole Foods Market has long been recognized for its high-quality products and sustainable practices. With an impressive amount of initiatives, data, commitments, new products, and stories to share with stakeholders and customers alike, the Impact Report needed to present the holistic picture, but in a way that felt approachable and personal, down to the team member.

Through collage-style design that mimicked Whole Foods’ layered sustainability efforts themselves, the report highlighted the care and attention to detail that go into the sourcing, growing, packaging, and delivering of their products, as well as the programs and resources offered to communities and team members that go far beyond the store shelf.

This approach proved to be highly engaging and effective. The 2023 Impact Report not only provided a single source of truth for both internal and external stakeholders but also strengthened Whole Foods' reputation as a leader in the corporate responsibility and sustainability space. The report's ability to combine data-driven insights with compelling narratives helped to connect with readers on an emotional level, demonstrating the company's genuine and ongoing commitment to its mission and values.
